The sound of light rain on my window pane enters my ears. Instantly I remember today is Wednesday — “My off day.” As I slide my finger across SNOOZE, I smile and close my eyes. 1 extra hour on Wednesdays is such a treat to me.
I get back comfortable, grinning as I press my head and face into my pillow. My toes twinkle with excitement, for extra sleep is a delicacy in my world. 6am comes and I swear it felt like I slept 2 extra hours.
I’m now up and going through my routines. On days like today, I opt not to have a sit-down breakfast and instead grab my shaker bottle — a cup and a half of soy milk, 3 scoops of pea protein, flax seeds, chia seeds, and a dash of cinnamon. Ice, and I’m set.
I toss in my bag one of the meal-prepped glass wares I prepared the night before: beef, peppers, onions, rice, and pinto beans. In goes a banana, my cantina of water, and my bag is ready.
Headphones and route dialed in, I see I can make better time for the first portion of my trip. Bus in 9 minutes. I get to walking. I get to my connecting spot and my bus is pulling right up. “Perfect.” Onboard, and I turn up Mr. Hill. I’m a student every day, and especially in the morning. Instruction and uplifting voices are a must. I don’t bother to scroll.
10 minutes later, I’m off and made excellent timing to my destination — 15 minutes early. I sit and do some mental recitals to further boost my positivity, focus, and cheerfulness. I’m primed and ready for whatever the day may bring. And you know what? I look forward to it.
To be better than yesterday is my only real challenge, and it’s a game you have to learn and grow to appreciate. You will get better because you are responsible! And if you don’t change, nothing will change. So change.
