December 20th, Saturday
I have slept in, getting some much-needed recovery. I feel good and start this off day with affirmations and thankfulness. I do some cleaning, make breakfast, and reflect on my week.
A lot has happened and changed for the better — many life lessons and tests. I have stood steady and remain. I do not flinch. I am consistent and I persist. I obey and I move. I do.
I usually meal prep on Sunday but figured I would do it today. Before starting, I did a quick inventory check on the fridge and cupboards to see where I’m at with supplies. I make a quick list of the things I have on hand and what I need right under that.
I head out and get to the bottom of the stairs and remember to grab my umbrella. As I hit the rainy San Francisco streets, many people are out and about. The Apple Store is buzzing with people, and across from Macy’s the food trucks are serving wonderful-smelling creations and sweet desserts.
As I make my way across Market Street and into Trader Joe’s, I have a moment where I remember the days of social anxiety and feeling of tense, followed by sweating and darting thoughts. No more is that feeling in me, and I can say I love to see people, interact, and see all the different smiles.
I cross the street, still in thought, and say to myself: “You have changed. You are better and you are stronger than you know.”
I smile, lifting my face to the rain, proud of the person I’ve built and become.
Once in, I pull out my list and grab each item one by one.
3 bags of granola: This week I will mix it up. From some earlier reading in my journey, I remembered something important — buy in batches when I can. So 3 for me is a batch because usually I would just buy 1. Don’t ask me why. I’m just glad I’m over that part of my life, and I shop even smarter.
So I grab the following flavors: almond butter (this one has really nice clusters), maple pecan, and vanilla almond. I grab one dozen organic brown eggs, organic blueberries, organic bananas, and 2 bags of organic spinach, and make my way to the checkout.
Out the store, I decide to take an alternate route and enjoy the rain, also to think and get in some extra steps.
I get home, put away things, and catch up on some reading and writing. Some time later, I start on my meal prep for the week.
My menu: sirloin steak, rice, thyme, rosemary, and mushrooms.
Done. I’m complete. And I figure I’ll start on my writing for Medium (which I’m doing now). Time to unwind and to get into some reading before calling it a night.
I continue to show up. I do the work, week after week. I enjoy my progression, and now that I think about it, anything worth having is worth going through the furnace.
I have built incredible discipline, resilience, and perseverance. I have not beaten fear, but I know how to better manage it and not allow it to paralyze me from forward growth.
I do things now. I decide and I do.
