Day 26: December 30th
As we inch closer to the New Year, I rest for a short while. 6am — I’m up, repeating my affirmations and stretching. With now 80 minutes to get through my condensed routine, I immediately go and get started on breakfast: 3 organic brown eggs, 1 cup of egg whites, and a bag of organic baby spinach (smiles). Yum.
I twist the heat to medium, put on my skillet, and add a pad of butter. While that’s bubbling gently, I crack the eggs with my fork and pour the inners into my 2-cup measuring bowl. I beat, set aside, and measure my egg whites. I pour in the 3 whole eggs, then the egg whites, and gently stir ever so often till fluffy and delicious.
I spoon into a large bowl, add a half pad of butter, and pour in my bag of spinach. 3 — 4 minutes later, I’m done. I put this right over the eggs and mix.
I check the time — 6:20am. I’m alright.
I grab my bottle of water and sit to eat. I say my grace and dig in. Light, fluffy eggs and spinach taste so heavenly in my mouth. I can’t help but smile, thinking about my protein intake for today. I’m off to a great start.
I finish up and continue on with my routine. I pack my lunch with what I made the night before: chile lime chicken, bells, onions, rice, and refried beans. I toss in some tortillas and a bag of almond butter granola in case I want something to snack on later. I grab my water bottle and I’m out the door.
7:20am. 3 minutes till my bus, and I make it to work by 7:30am. I’m early, but with this time I usually go over my goals and affirmation flashcards to align my thoughts. Today will be a good day. I expect it.
Though I’m new on the job, I’ve picked up the flow well. An unexpected call: a new offer and change. I ask, “Can I have time to think it over?” and I know that everything happens for a reason. There are no accidents.
I accept. Mentally, I move some things around and figure how this new schedule is actually better and more flexible. At first I had a moment, but quickly looked at it differently, and that helped a lot.
I can tell I’ve changed a lot. I see the brighter side of things. I’ve changed my perspective. I’ve changed my mind.
All in all, my day was good. After work, I swing by Trader Joe’s and pick up some lean beef, spinach, and 2 Sanpellegrinos. Limonata is my favorite.
I get home and instantly hit the shower to wash away the day. Clean and feeling fresh, I throw on my headphones, download Atomic Habits, and start on dinner.
I feel good. I am happy. I am better. I am growing. I am thriving.
